Our Story
NARUMI MATCHA was born from a deep desire:
to share authentic Japanese matcha with the world — not just as a drink, but as a living expression of tradition and culture.
Founder Narumi Saijo grew up surrounded by tea.
Her grandmother, a master of the tea ceremony, taught her the spirit and etiquette behind every movement. Her grandfather, once a matcha farmer, showed her the value of harmony with nature and the care required to grow truly good tea.
From her grandparents, who lived with deep respect for Japanese tradition, Narumi learned something even more important :
the pride of being Japanese.
This pride became the foundation of her life — and her brand.
Years later, Narumi relocated to Australia, where she built three companies and was eventually featured in the Wall Street Journal as a leading Japanese female entrepreneur.
While living abroad, she noticed something spreading around the world matcha.
But most of it wasn’t grown in Japan.
The taste, the aroma, even the story behind it — it wasn’t real.
That realization sparked her mission:
“I want the world to know the real matcha — and the heritage behind it.”
She returned to Japan and traveled to Nishio, Aichi, one of the country’s most renowned matcha regions.
There, she partnered directly with traditional tea farmers, cutting out warehouses and middlemen,
and founded NARUMI MATCHA, a brand that ships freshly made, authentic matcha straight from Japan to the world.
NARUMI MATCHA is not just tea.
It is a reflection of Japanese tradition, spirit, and generational wisdom.
Grown in the fields of Nishio using time-honored methods,it offers a rich aroma, deep umami, and a moment of calm in every cup.
It is a gift from Japan to the world —
infused with pride, tradition, and hope.
